The family photo has its part to play in
every celebration.“Papà” Antonio, the
patriarch, crouching with his inseparable cap and the
tie he used to keep to go with a shirt - strictly white
- for the big occasions.
His hand stroking the dog, his faithful companion during
the long days spent in silent toil, tilling the land and
tending the vineyards.
Gathered around this “king” in his own home,
his dependable wife and their eight children.
An unexceptional brood in a world conditioned by the number
of hands: the more were available, the more a family could
be prosperous.
A belief that would be confirmed in a then unforeseeable
future, but which is tangible here in the pride of a family
still united at a time when all around the appeal of factory
work was creating an crisis of identity in society.
On the ground, the festive snow of Christmas-tide. All
together. Peacefully.
The way we were. |
